Background

Therametric Technologies, Inc. was established in 1996 by two faculty members (Drs. Mostafa Analoui and Mark Saxen) at the Indiana University School of Dentistry and was acquired by Dr. George K. Stookey in July 2002. It is housed in 3200 sq. ft. of leased space located within the Indiana University Emerging Technologies Center on the Indiana University – Purdue University at Indianapolis campus. The space is divided into three analytical laboratories, an engineering laboratory, an office suite for seven staff members and two private offices. A variety of shared instrumentation facilities (cold room, dark room, instrument sterilization room, instrument wash room, storage room) as well as support services and conference rooms are provided by the Center.

 

Available instrumentation includes a variety of  instruments designed for dental caries detection including Quantitative Light Fluorescence. Available analytical instruments include a Perkin Elmer atomic absorption spectrometer, an imaging spectrometer, Packard 2900TR tri carb liquid scintillation analyzer, Leco LM247AT microhardness tester, Buck Scientific model M500 infrared spectrophotometer, PM400 planetary ball mill, enamel polishing instrument, Mettler analytical balance, Voyager Pro analytical balance, IEC Multi centrifuge, two Accumet AR10 ph meters, conventional and ultrasonic water baths, vacuum pumps, vacuum oven,  Ohaus top loading balances, Thomas Scientific metallurgical microscope, incubator, drying oven, magnetic stirrers, mechanical stirrers, Klett colorimeter, a variety of Pipetman instruments, and conventional types of laboratory glassware and plasticware.

 

TTI is staffed by a combination of full-time and part-time employees and consultants with expertise in dentistry and dental research, mechanical and electrical engineering, analytical and physical chemistry, and legal and business affairs.
